Sound for Video Session: Tools for Dialogue Sound De-noising Audition, RX

In this week's episode we cover three tools you can use to help reduce noise in your dialogue audio recordings: High pass filters, de-hum, and de-noise plugins. We cover most of this in Adobe Audition but also jump over into Izotope RX to show the same set of tools. The same principles apply for other audio editing apps as well.

Sound for Video Session: Izotope RX6 Demonstration

Izotope RX is an invaluable tool for dialogue audio post production clean up and mastering. I rely on RX heavily for most of my dialogue processing projects. Izotope just released the newest version (RX6) and in this session we'll look at two new modules (de-wind and de-rustle) as well as at the dialogue de-noise which has been improved over previous versions.

Sound for Video Session: Loudness Normalization in Izotope RX5

For this week's session, we'll demonstrate how to loudness normalize your sound with Izotope RX 5.

Making your dialogue sound loud and present is a bit of a mystery for many independent filmmakers. It is surprising how many of the channels with large audiences have poor quality audio which is either very quiet so that viewers have to crank up the volume, or where the filmmaker cranked up the amplitude or gain of the audio in post to the point where there is plenty of distortion and clipping.

In this episode, we'll show one way to make loud, present sound without clipping or distortion.
