Lighting

Our sound and lighting courses can be found here!
In this week’s video, we have a look at the new amaran Ray 660C—a surprisingly powerful 660W COB point-source light that brings Aputure-level color accuracy and output to a more affordable line. In this review, we test its omni-color engine, compare photometrics to the Aputure LS 400X, check fan noise, output, build quality, and real-world usability for creators, studios, and mid-budget productions. We also cover SSI results, Bowens-mount compatibility, IP54 weather resistance, Bluetooth + NFC control via the Amaran app, and how this fixture fills almost any video lighting situation.
The Ray 660C lands in that perfect middle ground of power, color fidelity, and price for those of use working professionally, but in the small budget world — corporate video.
If you’d like to learn how to make great dialogue audio for your film and video projects, please have a look at my courses including processing dialogue audio in Adobe Audition and DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight, recording sound, how to use the Zoom F4, F6, F8, and F8n, and how to get the most from the Sound Devices MixPre series of recorders. Our latest courses cover Sound for Live Streaming with the ATEM Mini and an Intro to Izotope RX. See our school website for more info!
